Document / Image Restoration

Several years ago I was asked if I could create an image from a large map that was in very poor shape.  The map was too large to scan with the resources that were available so I had asked that the map be photographed with a series of overlapping photographs that contained the entire map which are seen below.  These photographs were taken with a consumer (point and shoot) camera under less than ideal conditions.

Interactive 360 Degree Panorama

I have been creating interactive panoramas since 2009 and these images were shot in 2010 with a Nikon D5000 and a 10.5 mm fisheye lens mounted on a Precision-360 panoramic ballhead.  There were 6 images shot 360 degrees horizontally, one upward and one downward (8 total).  The downward shot was handheld with the tripod removed and my feet were erased in post processing.  The stitching is what you see below.

RayRay & TomTom

Ray RayBack in the early part of the last century (early 1900’s) my grandfather created a self-portrait that has mesmerized me for my entire life. It was a photograph of him wheeling himself around in a wheelbarrow, which was quite a feat for wet-process photography.  I tried this stunt but found that I didn’t have the patience to pull it off.  Actually, I may have had the patience, but I ran out of time because my darkroom was in the bathroom and I couldn’t tie up the bathroom too long.  Tom Tom Today, this is a pretty easy thing to do in Photoshop using the photo-merge function. Just mount your camera on a tripod, making sure it is perfectly level.  Take a photograph of one side and then the other, making sure there is some degree of overlap in the middle.  Use Photo-merge, one of the automated functions, to seamlessly merge the photographs together.  Here is what you get!
